About us
The Department of Psychology and Counseling at the National Taipei University of Education, formerly known as the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at the National Taipei Teachers College, was established in the 1998. To expand the scope of incubating talents and improve the level of academic research, we actively sought opportunities to set up a research institute. Due to the sufficient faculty capacity, equipment, and library, we began to recruit lecturers for a master’s program on counseling and teaching in 1999, another master program in 2001, and an evening master’s program in 2014.
The department has 12 full-time faculty members, with 7 professors, 1 associate professor, and 4 assistant professors. 11 of our faculty members are licensed as counseling psychologist / clinical psychologists. The admission methods for the undergraduate and postgraduate master’s program are as follows:
-
undergraduate program (via recommendation and interview or college entrance examinations);
-
master’s program (via recommendation and interview or college entrance examinations );
-
evening master’s program is enrolled in alternate years but has been discontinued after the last intake in 1999 due to the change in the psychologist examination policy.
In 2004, in response to the trend of academic development, we changed our name into ‘Department of Education Psychology and Counseling’ to facilitate the transition from expertise in the educational psychology and counseling area to a core professional area. Following the university’s transformation plan, the department was renamed ‘Department of Psychology and Counseling’ in 2006. In order to focus on academic development and talent incubation, from 2008 onward, we only admits students to the master’s program in Counseling Psychology.
